Job Title: Data Center Technician

DataBank is looking for a talented, energetic Data Center Technician capable of working in a fast-paced technology environment. The Data Center Technician position will work under the direct supervision of our Data Center Lead Technician, and is responsible for a variety of operations, maintenance, and monitoring of the data center and supporting infrastructure. Our Eagan, MN data center facility is staffed 24x7x365, and this position provides and entry-level opportunity within our Data Center Operations group. The right candidate must be able to work a 12 hour rotating shift, which includes nights and weekends.
Providing 'smart hands' support to colocation customers. Extending customer circuits including POTS, T1, T3, Ethernet, and Fiber. Manage installation and maintain structured cabling system. Rack & stack of IT hardware. Manage installation of AC & DC power circuits. Working with our ticket system (Netsuite). Maintain accurate records and document all problems. Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems. Crossover work with the facilities team as needed.
Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field. 1-2 year's technician experience working in critical environments. Preference given to data center or Telecom Central Office experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems. Ability to work independently and manage multiple project and priorities. Ability to lift 60-75lbs.
Preferred Job Experience & Skills
Experience terminating and testing CAT 5/6 and SMF cables. Knowledge of telecommunications and networking technologies, systems, and circuits. Understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including: Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air handling units and CRAC units. BICSI and CompTIA certifications.
