Without explicit decryption, an IPS cannot inspect the contents of encrypted traffic and is limited to metadata-based detection. To inspect encrypted traffic, the IPS must be paired with TLS decryption capabilities, which introduces operational complexity and potential privacy implications. The trend toward universal encryption has made this a critical design decision rather than an optional feature.
