Dallas-based DataBank has begun construction on two hyperscale-ready data centers in Culpeper, Virginia, part of the county’s tax-incentivized Technology Zone. The 85-acre site along Route 3 will feature 1.3 million square feet generating 192 MW of critical IT load, with the first facility expected online by early second quarter 2026.
At peak construction, the project will employ 350 to 660 workers, supporting local businesses including restaurants and food trucks. Once operational, facilities will maintain approximately 40 full-time employees plus ongoing maintenance contractors.
“We are creating an opportunity for construction to benefit local businesses. Once construction is finished, the facility will have about 40 full-time employees as well as full-time maintenance contractors that will be onboarded to support the infrastructure.”
— Tony Qorri, Vice President of Construction, DataBank
DataBank has distinguished itself through community partnerships, including donating an old house on the property for a three-day firefighter training program with Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Department. This collaboration provided realistic training scenarios rarely available to volunteer departments, from vertical ventilation techniques to rapid intervention team drills.
The Culpeper campus sits less than 50 miles from Data Center Alley in Loudoun County and near DataBank’s existing Ashburn operations. Developers investing $10 million and hiring at least 10 employees in the CTZ receive a 40% tax rebate over five years.
