DataBank is significantly expanding its Kansas City-area data center footprint, nearly doubling operational capacity at its KC3 facility in Lenexa, Kansas, to meet rising enterprise demand. The expansion involves building out two additional data halls at the South Lake campus, adding approximately 17,350 square feet of new raised floor space and 2 MW of power capacity. This growth will triple the sellable white space at KC3, enabling more colocation capacity for cloud, hyperscale, and enterprise customers seeking low-latency connectivity and robust infrastructure.
DataBank’s investment reflects strong regional demand and underscores Kansas City’s emergence as a key Midwest data hub due to its central location, reliable and diverse energy grid, and growing technology sector. Local executives emphasize the company’s long-term commitment to the market, noting that this expansion enhances the metro’s appeal to data-intensive businesses.
The expansion builds on DataBank’s broader strategy of scaling capacity in strategic secondary markets and follows recent nationwide growth funded by secured capital offerings. The expanded KC3 facility offers carrier-neutral access, redundant power and cooling infrastructure, and network connectivity that supports diverse enterprise and cloud workloads.
