In February, 2021 the winter storm in Texas highlighted the resilience of data centers as widespread power outages affected much of the state. Extensive redundancy—such as on-site generators, fuel reserves, and hardened facility design—enabled continued operations. Operators implemented emergency response plans, managed fuel logistics under difficult conditions, and coordinated with utilities to safeguard critical digital services. While many homes and businesses lost power, data centers sustained essential services including healthcare, financial systems, and communications.
