Significant SLC6 expansion supports fast-growing infrastructure requirements
Dallas, TX – April 29, 2022 – DataBank, a leading provider of enterprise-class colocation, connectivity, and managed services, has provided an update of its SLC6 data center expansion. Ground-breaking was previously announced in late 2021.
DataBank is constructing a 171,000 square foot data center with 100,000 square feet of raised flooring, half of which will be available day one. The expansion project establishes two new data halls, expected to open in October of this year, and will add 11 megawatts of power, available day one, bringing the total critical IT load to 22 megawatts.
“We are excited to bring this additional power capacity to our Granite Point Campus,” said DataBank Vice President of Construction, Tony Qorri. “This expansion underscores not only Utah’s position as one of the most opportune states for startups today; it also demonstrates the confidence DataBank has in the Salt Lake region’s future growth potential.”
Residing on DataBank’s Granite Point North Campus, SLC6 is strategically situated in Bluffdale, Utah, minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. The facility has been designed from the ground up with a full suite of customer amenities and all the security features needed to meet HIPAA, PCI-DSS, SSAE-18 SOC1 & SOC2 compliance requirements.
“Salt Lake City is rapidly becoming a “go-to” data center destination, not only for local “Silicon Slopes” innovators, but also for those seeking an alternative to expensive data centers in Los Angeles, Santa Clara, San Jose, and San Francisco, said Qorri. “Utah’s extremely low occurrences of natural and man-made disasters makes it one of the safest data center locations in the United States. Additionally, the region boasts some of the highest Internet speeds in the Intermountain West, and among the highest in the nation. The SLC6 location has allowed us to support the need for premier cloud and colocation services.”
