The award was presented virtually at a ceremony on June 1, 2021, by Datacloud Global Congress, which celebrates outstanding achievements of those across the data center, cloud and edge sectors throughout the last year.

DataBank Highlights from 2020-2021 Include:

• The Hyperscale Edge: September 2020 – DataBank acquired the data center assets of zColo, the colocation arm of Zayo Networks. This brought DataBank’s totals to 60+4 data centers in 29 markets with over 1.1M sq. ft, of raised data center space, 12 cloud nodes and 20 major network interconnection points. This strategic deal gave DataBank a national-scale portfolio of data centers located within 50 miles of half the U.S. population, upon which the company built multi-node availability zones in new tier 2 markets to support cloud, compute and content providers.
• The Low Latency Edge: October 2020 – DataBank began adding modular edge data center capabilities to its portfolio and gave customers the ability to colocate and interconnect latency-sensitive workloads (video, gaming, VR/AR, IoT, etc.) as close to users as possible. These fully secure, SOC-2 certified micro-data centers provide more than 330 square feet of colocation space, accommodating up to 10 racks (420 rack units) and 48kW of power that can be placed almost anywhere, including beneath 5G towers or in rural locations, and tethered back to DataBank’s other facilities.
• The Interconnect Edge: With the zColo acquisition, 13 interconnect locations were added within a mix of Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets, extending DataBank’s portfolio of interconnect locations to 20 and a total count of physical cross connects to over 30,000 (#7 in the industry according to Structure Research in their Dec. 2020 Global Data Centre Colocation and Interconnection Report). This gives SaaS application developers, network providers, and enterprises pursuing a hybrid infrastructure, the reach and flexibility they need as their applications and workloads evolve.
