A cross-connect is a physical cable, typically fibre or copper, that directly links two customer cabinets or a customer cabinet to a carrier in the same colocation facility, bypassing the public internet entirely. It is the foundational primitive for interconnection inside a data center. Every cloud on-ramp, carrier connection, and partner link inside a facility ultimately depends on a cross-connect of some kind.
